Finally On The Road

What a day! Yesterday we left Los Angeles, drove straight through Las Vegas, and camped as soon as we crossed the AZ border in a campground we had almost all to ourselves.  In the morning I got my first camping lesson: raccoons can absolutely open all the packaging on a box of This Fig Walks into a Bar.  The fig bars they didn't eat, they stomped on to make sure they were crumbled to bits. The night was dry and warm, and we tried to figure out the constellations until the cloud cover came in and we called it a day.
The next morning, a brief visit to  (Big box retailer, shamefully.  (At least it wasn't Wal-M**t) to replace my defective air mattress, and then off to Utah.  Zion national park defies attempts to describe it and our pictures don't do it justice.  We stopped at a roadside stand and from across the street, a red-haired kid of indeterminate gender was fiddling to beat the band, luring customers over to his lemonade stand.  He was actually quite good.  We bought a very yellow summer squash and continued on to the east.
